MIDLAND -- The Midland Christian Mustangs will always tell you it's all about winning and the team and not about individual stats. That mentality lead them to a state championship.

But now, the individual awards came out and Midland Christian took home quite a few.

Running back Christian Whigham was named the player of the year and was one of three mustangs to earn superlative honors on this year's TAPPS Division II, District 1 All-District Team.

Along with Whigham, senior linebacker Landon Breeding was named the district's defensive player of the year, and sophomore quarterback Mason McClendon was named the newcomer of the year.

Whigham became the school's all time leading rusher and rushed for a school record 43 touchdowns this year.

Breeding led the mustangs with 80 tackles during the regular season, along with one tackle for loss, one caused fumble and three pass breakups.

McClendon, who was in his first year as a starting quarterback, threw for 2,011 yards during the regular season, completing 95 of 163 passes for 20 touchdowns.
