Southwest Places Record Order for Boeing Planes

By: Stephanie Castillo
Updated: December 15, 2011
Boeing and Southwest Airlines have reached a record-breaking deal.

Southwest has agreed to order 150 of these new 737 MAX airplanes.

Boeing says Southwest is the first customer to order the more fuel efficient plane.

It says the nearly 19 billion dollar order is the largest in Boeing's history --both in terms of money and number of airplanes.

Southwest says it expects to get the first planes from its order starting in 2017.
