Popularity Of Go Karts Is Speeding Ahead

When residents Robert and Teresa Finley of Frisco brought their son Skyler to a BMX race in Oklahoma City, they probably did not foresee the possibility of opening their own go-kart racing facility in their hometown.

"Skyler races BMX bikes and they were doing a display out in Oklahoma City at one of the Pole Position stores," Finley said. "When we walked in I looked to my wife and said, 'we need this in Frisco'."

Finley said he purchased a franchise from the owners of the indoor go kart facility.

"I went and visited with them, they just own five corporate stores and I asked them if they would franchise it and we got our attorneys together and created a franchise and I bought the first franchise and we're now we're building out in Frisco and we're actually putting two in Dallas," Finley said.

The go karts which can race up to 45 mph, are "eco friendly, so there's no smelly fumes or gas -- anything of that nature" because they are battery operated.

Finley said 40 percent of the company's revenue "comes from corporate events." He also added that the Frisco facility will have authentic racing memorabilia displayed.
