Public Approval of Congress Falls to Historic Low

WASHINGTON, DC -- Only about one in ten Americans thinks Congress is doing a good job.

It's the lowest rating in the 37 years the Gallup Poll has been asking the question. Democrats give Congress a 14 percent approval rating, Republicans stand at 12 percent, and only seven percent of independents approve.

Gallup says the low ratings may be caused by the poor economy, increased polarization between the two political parties and Congress' inability to fix problems.
