The captain of the cruise ship Costa Concordia makes a court appearance today.

The ship was under the control of Francesco Schettino when it ran aground Friday night off of Italy's rocky Tuscan coastline.

It's just come out this morning that a transcript of a conversation between Schettino and the local coastguard proves he did in fact abandon the ship, leaving hundreds of passengers in peril. At least six people were killed and close to 30 remain missing, including two Americans who were onboard.

Captain Schettino was arrested by Italian authorities and is facing manslaughter charges.
