WASHINGTON, DC -- Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is postponing a vote next week on an online piracy bill.

In a statement, Reid cites "recent events" and calls on all sides to come together and resolve differences over the highly controversial legislation.

This week, websites including Google and Wikipedia organized an online protest against the controversial legislation, which seeks to regulate online piracy.

Powerful Hollywood interests have been pushing hard for the legislation.

In a statement this week, the White House expressed deep reservations about portions of the measure.
