Iran Stops Oil Shipments To France And Britain

By: Big 2 News Staff

TEHRAN -- The Iranian government is striking back at the European Union for deciding to freeze Tehran's bank assets and cutting off Iran's oil imports effective this July.

Iran on Sunday ordered a halt to oil exports to Britain and France in response to the European Union's decision.

Britain and France have little dependence on Iranian oil so the targeting of the two nations is viewed by leaders in the region as mostly a symbolic move.

Iran has a huge dependence on foreign currency from its oil sales.

The 27 countries of the EU represent close to 20 percent of Iran's exports.
