WYOMING, MI  --  The father of a Michigan soldier who died in Iraq let his anger over New Jersey lowering flags to half-staff for Whitney Houston be known over the weekend.

John Burri bought a New Jersey state flag and burned it in protest, saying flags should only be lowered to half-staff for those who lost their lives in the service of the nation.

He called the 13 dollars he spent on the flag the best money he ever spent.

His son, Army Specialist Eric Burri, was killed by an improvised explosive device in 2005.

Houston was remembered during an invitation-only service on Saturday at the Baptist church where she first started singing.

She was laid to rest yesterday.
