ODESSA -- Two men involved in a high speed chase that ended in a 4 vehicle crash at an Odessa intersection on February 27th were in the country illegally.

U.S. attorneys say Hipolito Marquez-Jimenez and Jose Heriberto Rivas-Pineda had both been deported out of the United States before the incident.

According to a federal criminal complaint, U.S. Border Patrol agents spotted Marquez-Jimenez, 32, and Rivas-Pineda, 31, driving along Interstate 20 near mile marker 100 Monday.

When agents pulled over Marquez-Jimenez and Rivas-Pineda's vehicle near Penwell, Marquez-Jimenez reportedly took off -- leading agents and Department of Public Safety troopers on a 20 mile chase into Odessa.

The chase ended in a 4 vehicle pileup at University Boulevard and Andrews Highway.

Marquez-Juarez reportedly tried to run away, but authorities detained him on a nearby rooftop.

U.S attorneys says Marquez-Jimenez was deported out of Del Rio on June 18, 2010. He had been convicted of aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury in Lubbock in 2003 and driving with an invalid license in Lubbock in 2007.

Rivas-Pineda was reportedly deported out of Harlingen on November 3, 2010.
