AUSTIN--Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst announced yesterday the appointment of State Senator Kel Seliger to the newly created Joint Interim Committee to Study the Public School Finance System, which is charged with conducting a comprehensive study of the public school finance system in Texas and making recommendations to the 83rd Legislature.

"I am honored that the Lieutenant Governor has appointed me to work alongside strong leaders in public education like Senator Shapiro, as well as my colleagues in the Senate and the House. We are facing profound challenges regarding public school finance, both in terms of the appropriation and the method of finance. This committee is the first step toward developing a definite plan. I look forward to bringing together all of the stakeholders, including educators, parents, the business community and other interested groups, to enact a permanent solution and end the cycle of lawsuits that we have endured for decades."
