CARLSBAD, NM -- An Amber Alert has led police to the body of a child, and the case has now turned into a homicide investigation.

4-year-old Samuel Jones was reported missing from his Carlsbad home on Saturday afternoon.  Sunday, authorities located a 30-foot-deep hole in a neighbors backyard.  They put a camera down the hole and saw the body of a child. Police say there is no way the child could have survived.

It's not clear if the body is Samuel Jones, but police are fairly certain that it is, due to its proximity to the child's home.

An excavator has been brought to the scene and is beginning the laborious process of bringing up the child.  A team from Roswell is also coming to oversee operations.

Carlsbad Police have called this a homicide investigation as a precaution, but stress that they do not suspect any foul play in this case.
