Private Prison Operators Fined in New Mexico

SANTA FE, NM - New Mexico has fined two private prison operators for what is considers lax conditions.
The Santa Fe New Mexican is reporting that Florida-based GEO Group Incorporated faces nearly $300,000 in penalties on top of a $1.1 million fine. This comes for failing to properly staff a prison in Hobbs, NM.
Corrections Corporation of America was fined close to $12,000 for not properly staffing a women's prison in Grants, and for failing to release 15 inmates on time.
GEO Group operates private prisons in both Reeves County and Big Spring.
