Midland/Odessa -- The Fourth of July holiday is almost here. So what can travelers expect to see on the roads and in the air?

According to AAA, motorists will travel in record numbers this Independence Day holiday. The travel group says drivers are being encouraged by lower gas prices.

AAA predicts 35.5 million people will drive at least 50 miles between July 3 and July 8. That's up 4 percent from this time last year, and the largest number in the past decade.

AAA says drivers can expect to pay an average $3.57 a gallon. That's down 3 percent from a year ago and well below this year's peak price of $3.94 back in early April. We've seen oil prices tumble more than 20 percent this quarter.

They say an additional 3.2 million travelers will hit the skies this holiday. That's up nine percent from last year. Although some travel experts say the cost to fly has gone up this year, AAA says they don't expect the price of air fare to change substantially from last year's prices.
