Not only do they have a new coach, they're in a new class and they have a new style, all brought on by David Ritchey.
The new head coach comes to Lamesa from Clyde, where he was 15-16 in three seasons. Ritchey inherits a team that makes the move from class 3A to 2A, which could be a good thing. The Tors have not made the post season in 11 years, but with a new spread offense in place, Ritchey hopes his kids can turn around the Golden Tornado legacy.
"We'll pound the ball, but we're also going to try to throw the ball quite a bit," Ritchey said. "The first day I go there I realized we've got a bunch of kids that could do somet special things with it. We've got a big old quarterback, so we'll just expect him to spread that around to all those different guys and see if he can make some plays."
Lamesa will kick off the season against Littlefield on Aug 31.
