Upton County Sheriff's Deputy Mike Smith was born in Odessa, eventually graduating from Permian high school.
He worked for Ector and Howard county law enforcement before finally joining Upton county two and a half years ago.
On June 8th, Deputy Smith was doing his job, responding to a report of a tank battery fire. That's when a semi crossed the center median and crashed into smith's cruiser.
Smith left behind a wife, daughter, and three sons, as well as his family in law enforcement that he was proud to be a part of.
