President Barack Obama is alleging that China illegally subsidized exports in its auto industries to the tune of $1 billion.

A complaint case will be filed with the World Trade Organization over the allegations.

The US is accusing China of violating the export rules between 2009 and 2011.

Although Chinese cars are still a rare sight on US roads, The White House claims domestic manufacturers are being put at a competitive disadvantage.

The auto industry has been a prominent feature in Obama's campaign's strategy for re-election.
