Garney Construction, TekRock Trenching and Hilliard Energy are working together to dig a trench for a 48-inch water line to transport water from the T-Bar Ranch in Winkler and Loving counties to Midland County just east of Highway 158. The water will be used by the City of Midland to service its water customers.
The Midland City Council approved the waterline project back in January.
As part of the project, a trenching machine will have to cross Highway 385 near Gardendale. To accommodate the move, Highway 385 will have to be closed down for about two hours starting at 8 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 23.
Workers will put steel plates, timbers and mats across the road to protect the road from damage. Once the protective devices are in place, the trencher will cross all four lanes of the divided highway from west to east. The road protection devices will then be removed and the road re-opened.
While the trencher is crossing the road, southbound motorists are asked to use Highway 158 to get to either FM 554 to the east (in Gardendale) or FM 1936 to the west. Either of those two roads will still provide access to and from Odessa. Northbound motorists will take Loop 338 to one of those two roads.
