Hobbs, NM Man Killed In Crash Near Artesia, NM

EDDY COUNTY, NM -- One man is killed and another is seriously injured in a head-on crash east of Artesia, NM.
The crash happened near mile marker 111 of U.S. 82 in Eddy County around 4 AM Wednesday.
New Mexico State Police say Luis Aguirre of Hobbs was heading west on U.S. 82 in a gold 2001 Plymouth Neon when the vehicle crossed into the eastbound lane and smashed directly into a semi truck driven by Kevin Evans of Tucumcari.
Aguirre, 79, was pronounced dead at the scene at 8 AM Wednesday.
Evans, 38, was taken to University Medical Center in Lubbock with possible fractured or broken vertibrae.
U.S. 82 was closed in the area for several hours after the wreck, but it has since re-opened.
State Police say alcohol was not a factor in the crash, and both drivers were wearing seat belts.
