MIDLAND -- The Shafter Mine in Presidio County reopened earlier this year, after being shut down for 70 years.

Still, many people are wondering if there's actually silver in the mine.

Professional engineer Jack Burgess explained the plans for the new mine during a lecture at the Petroleum Museum in Midland Thursday.

Burgess covered some of the history of the mine -- which opened in 1882 and then closed in 1942 for World War II.

Burgess also said there is silver at the mine, and that the mine is very important for the Presidio area.
