The Texas Transportation Commission has awarded 2 contracts to widen 33 miles of TX 349 in Martin County.
The route has been a 2-lane road for years, but TXDOT is working to expand it after several bad wrecks took place along the road in recent years.
One contract will be used to expand the section of TX 349 between the Midland County line and TX 176 to a 4-lane divided highway, while the other contract will expand the section of TX 349 between TX 176 and the Dawson County line.
Construction on the project is already underway in northern Martin County.
The entire project should be completed in martin county within 18 months.
Meanwhile, the Lubbock district of TXDOT will take bids in late 2013 to expand the highway between the Dawson County line and Lamesa.
