New Study Says Free Birth Control Could Reduce Abortions; Teen Pregnancies

By: CNN
Updated: October 5, 2012
A new study has revealed that free birth control may dramatically reduce the number of abortions and teen pregnancies.

During a three-year test program in St. Louis, researchers found that the number of abortions was below the national average when women were given free contraception.

Teen births were much lower, too.

That number dropped from about 34 out of 1 thousand women to only 6.3.

Researchers also discovered most women chose long-term birth control, like implants, over cheaper pills.
