President Obama tried to explain his poor performance during last week's first presidential debate in a radio interview Wednesday morning.

Critics blasted the president for appearing unenthusiastic during the match-up with challenger Mitt Romney. They say he seemed unwilling to engage on more contentious campaign issues, like Romney's infamous 47-percent remark.

On the the "Tom Joyner Morning Show," the president said he was just being "polite" with Romney. He says Americans can expect more aggressive rebuttals during next week's second debate on Long Island.
