STANTON -- A woman has been committed to a mental health facility after getting into a bizarre standoff with Martin County Sheriff's deputies on a cell phone tower.

Martin County Sheriff John Woodward tells Big 2 that an armed woman climbed a cell phone tower along Business 20 in Stanton around 3 PM on October 14th

Martin County Sheriff's deputies rushed to the scene to try and talk the woman down.

Meanwhile, TXDOT crews had to close Business 20 between its western intersection with Interstate 20 and TX 137 for more than an hour due to the ongoing situation.

Woodward says that the woman threw her cell phone down from the tower around 8 PM.

Deputies and Sheriff Woodward had to use a bull horn to communicate with the woman after she got rid of her phone.

The woman reportedly fired off a few shots from the tower, but she didn't hit anyone.

The woman eventually climbed back down to the base of the tower -- at which point Woodward disarmed the woman.

No one was hurt in the incident.

Woodward tells Big 2 that the Martin County Sheriff's office has dealt with previous situations involving the woman from the standoff before.

Now, the woman has been committed to M.H.M.R. in Big Spring.
