Arrest Made In Hobbs Murder, Police Continue To Investigate

HOBBS, NM -- Hobbs Police have made an arrest in a murder case, but say the case is not yet closed.

Police say they arrested David Ortiz, 51, for murder over the weekend. Officers say Ortiz fatally shot Agapito Aragonez, 37, Friday night.

At approximately 10:03 pm on Friday, November 2, 2012, Officers with the Hobbs Police Department responded to a call of Shots Fired at 1117 South Morris Street here in Hobbs, NM. 

Upon arrival officers found a male subject suffering from what appeared to be a gun shot wound.  The subject later identified as Agapito Aragonez age 37 was transported to Lea Regional Hospital by Hobbs EMS and subsequently transported to University Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas, where he was pronounced deceased. 

During the investigation a male subject identified as David Ortiz age 51 was arrested and charged with an open count of Murder.

This investigation is on-going and anyone with information related to this crime is asked to call the Hobbs Police Criminal Investigations Division at 575.397.9275.
