MIDLAND -- Join the CAF Airpower Museum on Thursday, November 8 as we welcome Astronaut Mike Mullane as part of the Above & Beyond Speaker Series sponsored by the Odessa Council for Arts & Humanities. During the evening, enjoy a unique exhibit of astronauts and NASA related items.

The event will be held in O'Brien Hall at the CAF George H.W. & Barbara Bush Commemorative Center, 9600 Wright Drive, Midland, Texas. Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. and Colonel Mullane will begin about 7 p.m. Tickets are $15 for CAF members and $20 for non-members and can be purchased at the museum.

Colonel Mullane was born in Wichita Falls, Texas but spent much of his youth in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he currently resides. Upon his graduation from West Point in 1967, he was commissioned in the United States Air Force. As a Weapon Systems Operator aboard RF-4C Phantom aircraft, he completed 134 combat missions in Vietnam.

Mullane was selected as a Mission Specialist in 1978 in the first group of Space Shuttle Astronauts. He completed three space missions aboard the Shuttles Discovery (STS-41D) and Atlantis (STS-27 & 36) before retiring from NASA and the Air Force in 1990. Mullane has been inducted into the International Space Hall of Fame and is the recipient of many awards, including the Air Force Distinguished Flying Cross, Legion of Merit and the NASA Space Flight Medal. His memoir, Riding Rockets: The Outrageous Tales of a Space Shuttle Astronaut, has been reviewed in the New York Times and on the Jon Stewart Daily Show.

The CAF Airpower Museum Above & Beyond Seminar Program is made possible through the support of the Odessa Council for Arts & Humanities.

Established in 1989, the CAF Airpower Museum preserves the history of World War II military aviation and the memory of the men and women who built, serviced and flew the aircraft of that time. Recognized for its collection of authentic artifacts and memorabilia, including uniforms, armament and photographs, the museum houses 100,000 square feet of interactive exhibits that illustrate aviation concepts and events from every theatre of the war. The museum is home to the World's Largest Collection of Authentic Nose Art and also offers library research services. For more information, please visit www.airpowermuseum.org.
