BIG SPRING--- The Colorado River Municipal Water District (CRMWD) made the decision to lift water restrictions at Wednesday morning's board meeting.

With the much needed rainfall brought to the area this year, CRMWD General Manager John Grant says it plays a key role on why the decision was made.

"The Ivy Reservoir actually came up 15 feet, Spence came up 25 feet, so it more than doubled our surface water supply" says Grant.

While the decision was made at Wednesday morning's board meeting, water allotment restrictions won't actually be lifted until December 1st.

With the official start of winter being December 21st, Grant says that it's a good time to lift restrictions.

"There's not a big impact to water use during the winter months" says Grant.

West Texas has always been challenged with water quality but got lucky this year.

"The water that actually went into Ivy and Spence is pretty good quality water for surface water in West Texas" says Grant.

Even though the CRMWD lifted water allotment restrictions, it's still encouraging cities to maintain and practice water conservation measures.  It will then be up to each city to decide to lift municipal water restrictions or not.

Grant says the district will be revisiting the topic of water allotment in the spring of 2013.
