Hundreds Come Together to Donate Blood After Train Tragedy

MIDLAND--- As people around Midland began to hear about the train tragedy, many wanted to turn their heartbreak into help.
Hundreds of people lined up to give blood at the United Blood Services in Midland Thursday night, just hours after the tragedy.
The Midland office had to turn some people away because they simply couldn't take blood donations from everyone.
However, there was enough blood on hand to help all of the people that were hurt in today's crash. This blood will be used to help replace the blood that was used for the train tragedy.
"The Permian Basin just responds whenever there's a need" says United Blood Services Public Relations Manager, Lee Hartmann "I remember 9/11 it was just like this".
People in the community all came out to give blood, including some veterans.
"If there's anything we can do to help them out, we should" says veteran Roy Smith.
While the United Blood Services was not able to collect any more donations on Thursday evening, they expect a large turnout at the blood donation sights on Friday.
The United Blood Services in Odessa will be open on Friday and they say they are expecting a large turnout.
Midland High School will also be holding a blood drive from 9-3:30 on Friday.
The United Blood Services wants to stress that they really need the donations in time for the holidays.
