MIDLAND -- One of the veterans who was injured in the Midland train tragedy issued a statement to the public on Saturday.

Staff Sgt. Shane Ladner is currently a police officer in Holly Springs, GA.

Ladner and his wife Meg were both hurt in Thursday's accident -- and both are being treated at Midland Memorial Hospital.

Ladner suffered back injuries, and his wife had to have her leg amputated.

Both hope to be back in the Atlanta area in the next few days.

Ladener issued the following statement on Saturday:

"I want to thank the people of Midland and the people of this great country for their prayers and support.

I also want to thank the show of support organization for honoring us and everything they have done for us and our families.

We appreciate the doctors and staff at Midland Memorial Hospital for providing excellent care.

Prayers have been and continue to be answered. Please continue to pray for us."
