MIDLNAD -- While gas prices have been steadily dropping in recent weeks, some areas are seeing a record high for gas prices during the Thanksgiving holiday.

In fact, AAA expects that holiday travel will stay close to the same levels as 2011 -- thanks to those record high gas prices.

The national average for gas prices was just under $3.40 a gallon Wednesday.

The average price for regular unleaded gasoline in Midland and Odessa was $3.29 a gallon Wednesday.

The Permian Basin's gas prices are actually slightly lower than those reported in the area during Thanksgiving 2011.
