Construction Complete On New Pyote Rest Stops

TXDOT officials tell Big 2 that construction is complete on the new Interstate 20 rest stops just east of Pyote.
The $14.1 million facilities have several interactive exhibits that showcase the history of the surrounding area -- including a World War II army base that was once located there.
There are also nature trails and playgrounds -- along with plenty of parking -- at the rest stop.
Ground was broken for the project on February 15, 2011, and the previous rest stops located in the area closed on April 11, 2012.
However, TXDOT officials say construction was delayed from the original schedule after a sidewalk shifted due to changing soil conditions.
An additional embankment also had to be built, which raised the price tag for the project slightly.
A date for the formal grand opening hasn't been set as of yet.
