MONAHANS -- The City of Monahans is ringing in the holidays by breaking ground on some new hotels.

Monahans Mayor David Cutbirth tells Big 2 that a Candlewood Suites and a Holiday Inn Express will soon be coming to town.

Construction crews will break ground on the Candlewood Suites near the intersection of Interstate 20 and TX 18 around 10 AM on November 27th.

Meanwhile, the Holiday Inn Express should break ground near the intersection of TX 18 and Interstate 20 within about 2 weeks.

Monahans has been dealing with a housing shortage, due to unprecedented growth from the ongoing oil boom.

The city is also recovering from an ugly August 7th incident at the Monahans Best Western Plus.

In that incident, an injured veteran was forced to crawl down the stairs at the hotel during a power outage.

After the ugly incident, a representative from the Texas Hotel-Motel Association in Austin gave all Monahans hotel owners a customer training seminar.
