MIDLAND -- While many West Texas cities are easing water restrictions, a stubborn drought is persisting across the Lone Star State.

In response to the continuing drought threat, Governor Rick Perry has extended an Emergency Disaster Proclamation for much of Texas.

The proclamation -- which was first issued on July 5, 2011 for a majority of the Lone Star State -- authorizes all public and private measures to be activated to prevent wildfires across the state.

When the proclamation was first issued, Texas was suffering through the worst outbreak of wildfires in its recorded history.

While conditions remain dry, fewer wildfires have plagued the state this year.
