BIG SPRING -- A Big Spring woman is accused of leaving leaving her 1-year-old child in a vehicle unattended while she went shopping.

Katherine Rios was arrested on December 2nd.

Big Spring Police say that they found Rios' young child alone inside a vehicle in the parking lot of Walmart (in the 200 block of West F.M. 700) around 4:30 PM on December 2nd.

According to The Big Spring Herald, a shopper had discovered the child minutes earlier and called police.

Officers say that the windows of the vehicle were partially down.

Officers found Rios, 23, inside Walmart around 5 PM on December 2nd.

Rios reportedly told police that she hadn't planned on taking the infant with her, and she'd forgotten that the child was in the vehicle when she went inside.

Rios was then placed under arrest.

Now, Rios is charged with abandoning a child - criminal negligence.

As of Monday evening, Rios was being held in the Howard County Detention Center on $3,000 bond.
