ODESSA -- The first Volkswagen dealership to call the Permian Basin home since the early 1990's.

Now, after six years of groundwork, Collin Sewell announced Tuesday that the Sewell Family of Dealerships would be opening a Volkswagen dealership at Parks Legado Town Center.

Collin Sewell told Big 2 that Sewell Volkswagen will be coming to the West Texas community first quarter of next year.

The Volkswagen dealership will be joining Sewell's current lineup of stores, which includes Sewell Ford Lincoln in Odessa and Sewell Chevrolet Buick GMC in Andrews.

Volkswagen officials say this is an exciting time to expand to the Permian Basin, and they're excited about the opportunity to join a winning team.

"I'm very excited. Sewell has a great reputation and they're very well established in the market as well," Volkswagen Southeast Operations Manager, Chad Deaver told us.

So why now?

Sewell has been trying to build a Volkswagen dealership for several years.

According to Deaver, this has been a long time coming, and emerging markets like the Permian Basin will help them achieve their goals.

"We have some very lofty sales goals we're trying to achieve this year through 2018 , with the goal of being the number 1 auto maker globally, in the world. We can't do that without solid operators and emerging markets, and that's really what we're here today for," Deaver said.

The dealership will be located at Parks Legado, which is right off of SH 191, so they will offer convenient service to buyers, and current VW owners in both cities.

Sewell plans to open a temporary location on 8th street in Odessa, near Sewell Ford Lincoln by February 2013.

The plan is for the Parks Legado location to be ready in 2014.
