Parking Meters Could Be Coming To Downtown Midland

MIDLAND -- It currently doesn't cost anything to park on the street in downtown Midland -- but that could soon be changing.
Midland city leaders are looking into possibly adding parking meters across downtown.
The move has been proposed as a possible option as the area undergoes growth not seen in 30 years.
Parking meters would bring the City of Midland more revenue.
However, Midland leaders add that the presence of meters could also help ensure that drivers find parking, since vehicles wouldn't be able to take up spaces along downtown streets for days at a time.
The City of Midland is also looking at other options to increase parking in the area -- such as an expansion in surface parking lots or increasing enforcement of parking laws at existing spots.
The new Wall Street Lofts -- which are being built downtown near the Midland Center -- will also have public parking in its garage.
