The event was initially planned to benefit the Rockaways neighborhood in Brooklyn, New York. It was one of the areas seriously damaged by Hurricane Sandy.
Organizers of Sunday's event said as they were putting it together when the deadly train tragedy happened, so the fundraiser decided to expand the effort.
Mackenzie Smith organized the event, she said, "This has just given west Texas a really good opportunity to support a local cause and a cause that we can sort of all relate to you know. No one can really stand up to mother nature."
The event was held at Zucchi's Sports Bar and Grill in Odessa. Those that came out were entertained by local country music artist Brian Milson. There was silent auction. The pin-up inspired Pink Ladies volunteered their time to serve as waitresses for the event.
