In an overwhelming vote Friday, American Airlines pilots approved a labor deal that could help the company out of bankruptcy.

The Allied Pilots Association says 73% of its nearly eight-thousand pilots voted for the agreement.

It could also lead to a merger with US Airways.

The pact includes some compromises on work rules and benefits, but it's seen as a better deal than the one they shot down in August.

As American Airlines tries to reorganize, the company says it has shared confidential financial information with US Airways as they discuss a possible merger.

In addition to the pilots union, the Transport Workers and the Professional Flight Attendant unions are all on record supporting a merger with US Airways.
