Police say that a man went into a Stripes on Southeast Main Street around 4:10 PM on December 11th and picked up a prepaid $500 Visa credit card.
After the clerk activated the card, the robber reportedly distracted them and switched the activated card for an inactive one.
The robber then reportedly tried to use the inactive card to buy several items.
When the sale didn't go through, the robber reportedly left the items on the counter.
The robber then left the store in a white Toyota or Pontiac car with the activated $500 Visa card in his pocket.
Police believe that the robber has used the same trick to swipe $3,000 worth of prepaid Visa cards from stripes stores in Portales, Fort Sumner, Artesia, and various cities in West Texas
