Man Shot Dead in Carlsbad

CARLSBAD, NM -- At approximately 1:00 a.m. Sunday morning, December 16, 2012, Officers from the Carlsbad Police Department were dispatched to the 1700 Block of South Canal Street in reference to a possible shooting.

Upon arrival Officers found a male subject, later identified as Adrian Fierro (a 20 year old resident of Carlsbad), deceased at the scene. Officers observed that the decedent had received a gunshot wound to the head. The scene was secured and Detectives from the Carlsbad Police Department responded and began the investigation.

Interviews with possible witnesses were conducted through the night and the scene was processed for evidence. An agent of the Office of the Medical Investigator arrived and after photographs were taken and evidence was collected, the decedent was placed into the custody of the O.M.I. and will be sent for autopsy in an effort to collect evidence and officially determine the manner and cause of death.

This investigation is ongoing, however, at this point the circumstances surrounding this incident are unknown and no suspects have been identified at this time.
