They started on very different paths. Robertson grew up in West Texas, graduating from Midland High School and earning his degree from Texas Tech University. He enjoyed a successful career in the energy field before going from one barrel to another - and ending up in the whiskey business.
Meanwhile, Firestone enjoyed a 20-year career in the local television and communications business. After the successful launch of a network affiliate in Jacksonville, Florida, he was bitten by the entrepreneurial bug.
They opened their 1920's-era warehouse/distillery earlier this year near Fort Worth's Hell's Half Acre. Inside, they're creating TX Blended Whiskey - a premium pour with notes of vanilla, caramel, and honey butter. They're also crafting a straight bourbon whiskey produced with indigenous Texas ingredients and resources. It's currently in the aging process. The bottle toppers are a work of art, too. They're handmade at the distillery using a variety of luxury cowboy boot leathers.
