Arrest Made After Carlsbad (NM) Murder

CARLSBAD, NM -- On Friday, December 21, 2012, Carlsbad Police Department Detectives arrested 18 year old Carlsbad resident Anthony Duran for the weekend murder of Adrian Fierro.

After five days of interviewing potential witnesses, examining evidence, and following up on potential leads, the Carlsbad Police Department Detective Division was able to obtain an arrest warrant for Duran and charged him with an open count of murder.

The investigation revealed that Fierro had been gunned down by Duran in the 1700 block of S. Canal St. around 1:45 a.m. on December 16. According to Fierro's autopsy report, he sustained a gunshot wound to the face and two to the upper torso. According to witnesses, there was a heated dispute between Duran and Fierro the night of the shooting in a trailer home in the 200 block of W. Fiesta Dr. reportedly over the unfair exchange of narcotics. Later that night, witnesses observed Duran with a firearm approaching Fierro as Fierro left the trailer home. Just seconds later, gunshots were heard by witnesses and area residents.

Duran is currently in the Eddy County Detention Center awaiting trial. His bond has been set at $1,000,000 cash only.
