For cities the holidays resulted in fewer trash pick-ups and more garbage.

Here's the full press release from the City of Midland:
Holidays are the busiest time of year for the City of Midland's Solid Waste department, and officials are asking for your cooperation and patience in helping their operations run smoothly.

Due to holiday schedule changes, Friday, Dec. 21 will be the last day Solid Waste picks up trash until Wednesday, Dec. 26.

The city asks that residents be patient as Solid Waste containers reach capacity, and hold their trash if necessary. Any solid waste left outside containers will be considered litter.

Various divisions of Solid Waste will have modified hours throughout the holiday season. Please note that the landfill will close early on the Saturdays listed and Solid Waste will extend hours for its collection routes.

These containers will be available on Wednesday, December 26, Thursday, December 27, Friday, December 28 between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Please do not drop off bulky items such as mattresses, furniture and appliances.

Recycling containers for plastic and cardboard are also located in both Walmart parking lots (4210 JBS & 2450 Loop 338).
