NEWTOWN -- Residents of Newtown, Connecticut are trying to find some Christmas joy in the middle of tragedy. The town is still reeling from the shooting that killed 26 people at Sandy Hook Elementary more than a week ago.

Residents there say it's important to still celebrate the holiday.

"Fortunately we have many, many kids that are still here. It's all about the kids and being with family," Audrey Locorotondo, a Newtown resident, said.

Dozens of people are trying to pitch in and help comfort the community. A group passed out free hot chocolate, donuts and panda bears to kids on Christmas Eve.

And all police officers in Newtown will get Christmas Day off to spend with their families. Officers from surrounding towns will cover their shifts.
