Ted Kennedy Jr. has decided not to run for Senate in Massachusetts.

Kennedy is the son of the late US Senator Edward Kennedy.

Several people have urged him to run for Senator John Kerry's seat, now that President Obama has nominated Kerry to be the next secretary of state.

Kennedy says running for Kerry's seat would require him to uproot his family from Connecticut to Massachusetts.

In a statement, Kennedy said, "Although I have a strong desire to serve in public office, I consider Connecticut to be my home, and I hope to have the honor to serve at another point in my future."
