One gold coin is on its way to doing a lot of good this holiday season.

The Salvation Army in Atlanta says the South African Krugerrand coin was dropped into one of its red donation kettles Friday.

They estimate it is worth about $1700.

The Salvation Army says the donor called to let them know about his donation, but said he wants to remain anonymous.

The Krugerrand is valuable because of its purity and popular among coin collectors.
