Fatal Semi-Tractor Accident in Hobbs Leaves One Dead

HOBBS---A Hobbs man is dead after an accident in a semi-tractor trailer just 25 miles East of Carlsbad. 

According to the Carlsbad Current-Argus, 27-year-old Guadalupe Ontiveros was travelling Southbound on Shugart Road in a 2005 International semi-tractor, when he reportedly drove off the side of the road. 

According to a news release, when Ontiveros attempted to regain control of the vehicle, he was ejected.

New Mexico State Police arrived on scene at 12:30 pm where they reportedly found Ontiveros and was pronounced deceased by an investigator from the Office of the Medical Investigator.

According to the news release, driver inattention, excessive speeding and failure to utilize safety restraints were all factors in the crash.
