MIDLAND -- The United States Postal Service is scaling back operations in many cities.

However, the U.S.P.S. is expanding in the Permian Basin.

The U.S.P.S. held a postal job fair at the Texas Workforce Commission in Midland on Thursday.

Right now, the U.S.P.S. are looking for part-time, transitional, and support jobs in West Texas.

The jobs -- which could grow into full-time jobs -- became available after a large number of retirements.

The U.S.P.S. needs 9 employees in Midland, and 4 in Odessa.

Scheduled work days for the open positions is normally be Monday through Saturday, with an average 32-hour work week. Salary for the positions is $14.89-per-hour, with no benefits and no guaranteed hours.

However, the postal service has learned that finding workers in West Texas is a challenge.

"We're finding it very difficult to have applicants apply in the Midland - Odessa area because of the job boom here in the oil field," U.S.P.S. Ivonna Molina told Big 2. "So I was sent down here specifically to recruit applicants and show them how to apply on our website."

The U.S.P.S. says they had 23 applicants at Thursday's fair.

The U.S.P.S. also holding another job fair on December 28th at the Texas Workforce Commission (2626 J.B.S. Parkway, Building D) in Odessa from 9 AM until 3 PM.
