The head of the Environmental Protection Agency, Lisa Jackson, will be stepping down in a few weeks.

The agency announced the news today Thursday.

The EPA says Jackson plans to leave her post after President Obama makes his State of the Union speech next month.

Jackson says she leaves the agency "confident the ship is sailing in the right direction."

She says she is ready for new challenges, time to spend with her family and new opportunities to make a difference.

No word yet on who will be tapped to replace Jackson.
