More than 1500 firearms were found by screeners at airport checkpoints in 2012.

That's an average of more than four guns found every day!

And, it is up from the more than 1300 weapons found in 2011.

Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta led the nation with 80 guns found through November of last year.

That is followed by airports in Dallas, Phoenix, Houston and Denver.

It is not clear if the increase is because more people are traveling with weapons or if TSA screeners and new technologies are doing a better job finding them.

Only unloaded guns are allowed in locked, checked baggage within a hard case.
