MIDLAND -- A rodeo bullfighter from Midland County who was badly injured three months ago is thanking the community for their support.

Cody Hollums has released a message on the Facebook page Prayers and Support for Cody Hollums thanking everyone for their thoughts and prayers

Hollums also added that the well wishes aided his recovery.

Hollums was protecting a cowboy who had been thrown from a bull at a Championship Bull Riding event in Lufkin on October 6th, when the bull stepped on him and kicked him in the head.

Hollums was hospitalized at East Texas Medical Center in Tyler after the incident, and he was placed into a medically induced coma on October 16th.

The sedation was designed to allow Hollums' brain time to recover from the traumatic incident.

Hollums opened his eyes for the first time in days on October 23rd.

Hollums was transferred to a rehabilitation facility in Lubbock in November, but he's since returned to Midland.

Now, Hollums is preparing to continue therapy at home.

West Texans also have teamed up to support Hollums through a variety of fundraisers the past few months.

A team roping competition to benefit has been scheduled for January 26th in Andrews.

A fund has also been set up for Hollums' benefit at Community National Bank.

If you'd like to add to this fund, please send donations to the following address.
